Nancy Drew's False Notes - Review
FALSE NOTES BOOK REVIEW
Hey!
I am Mahi,15 years old. I really love, love, love reading books. I can say books are one of my most best friends. I spend most of my time reading books. Other than books, my day includes Music, Drawing, Linguistics ( I can speak Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, English and Korean) , Astronomy and Stargazing.
So, I completed this book called False Notes. It's a book from the Nancy Drew series. Nancy Drew was created by publisher Edward Stratemeyer as a counterpart for his Hardy Boys series. Nancy Drew first appeared in 1930.The books are ghost written by a number of authors under the collective pseudonym - Carolyn Keene. So like all Nancy Drew books, this book revolves around Nancy, an amature detective. Her father, Carson Drew, is a well known attorney. Nancy's mother died when Nancy was just three. From then on, Hannah Gruen, the Drew's housekeeper, took care of Nancy. As Nancy builds her interest towards mysteries , she meets two girls George Fayne, and Bess Marvin, who happened to be cousins. They become Nancy's best friends and help her through a lot of her adventures. Bess is dexterous at lock picking while George is a skilled computer hacker. Nancy is 18 in this story. This book was published on March 1st 2004.
This book is in first person. We read the story in Nancy's words. So we'll get to know Nancy's thoughts. The way the story unfolds is really good. Readers who are obsessed with mystery stories will love the book. Also those readers who are not so much into mystery will like it.
The story basically goes like this.
Imagine you found out that someone was kidnapped. What would you do? Obviously, you say, call the police? Hold on then. Let me frame it again. You found out that someone was kidnapped - but nobody, even the person's family doesn't agree with you. Now what would you do? Drop the case?
Nancy Drew wouldn't...... Because she is the most talented amateur detective the world has ever seen.
Leslie Simmons, a talented pianist, is kidnapped. This is what Nancy finds out. But Leslie's family doesn't agree with Nancy. Also her dad, a famous attorney, acts strangely after hearing Leslie's name. Nancy is convinced that Leslie is kidnapped. On one side, Leslie's mother, Heather Simmons, has to file the paperwork by Friday to contest in the Mayor elections. Nancy is sure, Morris Granger, the mayor is behind all this. Because, this may distract Mrs.Simmons and make her delay her paperwork. It could also lead her to give up the elections. This way Granger can become the mayor unopposed. Things become more complicated when Leslie doesn't show up for the scholarship competition. Nancy, along with Bess and George, tries to find Leslie. Is Morris Granger the culprit?
All the while you are reading the story, you feel as if you are beside Nancy, being her apprentice, solving the mystery with her. And believe me, this feeling gives you a lot of satisfaction. All the stories in the Nancy Drew series give us the basic information of how detective work goes on. At least amateur detective work.
All in all, it is a must read. :-)
